Indiana Manufacturers Association Applauds
Quick Action on COVID Liability Protections
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - Late yesterday, February 18th, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed Senate Bill 1 into law, which will provide immunity to Hoosier manufacturers and many other businesses and entities who have had to grapple with the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is essential to give employers the confidence to reopen and invest in their businesses. The Indiana Manufacturers Association (IMA) would like to specifically recognize and thank Governor Eric Holcomb, President Pro Tempore Rod Bray (R-Martinsville), Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers), Senator Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) and Representative Jerry Torr (R-Carmel) for their efforts to move this important legislation.

According to IMA President and CEO Brian Burton, “COVID liability protections have been a priority of the IMA this session, and it sends an important message to Indiana businesses that Senate Bill 1 is one of the first signed by Governor Holcomb. Whether you are a business working to keep employees safe or a manufacturer that shifted production to meet the demands for personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, medicines or other critical products, this bill gives assurance that you won’t also have to spend resources fending off lawsuits.”

The bill goes into effect immediately and is retroactive to March 1, 2020. The law is currently set to expire December 31, 2024.
